Actress and Model
MAGIC IMAGE HOLLYWOOD MAGAZINE WANTS YOU TO MEET ACTRESS and MODEL WREN BARNES, SHE OPENED HER HEART TO US AND TALKED ABOUT HER CAREER AND PROJECTS; LET’S SEE WHAT SHE IS ALL ABOUT…
MIHM-Tell us a little bit about you, where are you from and what inspired you to pursue a career in the entertainment industry?
WB-I was born in California, but I spent most of my childhood out in the country in East Tennessee. As a child I was wild and free – climbing trees, picking blackberries off the vine, running around barefoot and exploring. I’ve always had a sense of adventure and shunned the ordinary.
I just knew at a young age that modeling and acting was the path meant for me. I asked my parents to get me an agent at age 7 and kept asking them over and over til I had one. The idea of producing, writing and even someday directing came later, but I feel like it’s in my DNA. It’s something I always knew.
MIHM-You are a model and an actress, which one makes your heart beat faster?
WB-I am an actress at the core of my being. Modeling is fun, and I find my style when doing photoshoots comes from the perspective of an actress, wear a costume, a character, an emotion is captured by the camera. Modeling showcases the external, almost like an advertisement. Acting is more gratifying to me. It allows me to create a story from the soul. It is a gift to share the person I’m playing with the audience.
I love acting, but in my day to day life I very much enjoy being authentic, transparent, spiritual, and honest. It’s a dichotomy I guess.
MIHM-You are a swimmer and practiced ballet also, has that been helpful for your acting career?
WB-Swimming has helped specifically with breathing, strength and flow. Ballet has helped with flexibility and grace. Both combine to allow me to fully express myself and my character’s choices. I believe the body is an instrument, it’s a gift. Just as we need to nurture our soul, we maintain our body with nutrition, training and exercise.
MIHM- What does success mean to you?
WB-Defining success starts with getting in touch with my drive, aspirations & passion as an individual. As I grow as a person, my definition of success changes. As I accomplish one goal, then I reach out to find new goals. It is a process rather than a destination. It’s ever changing, and that’s what makes life exciting….the discovery, the pursuit and the accomplishment. As I explore life I learn more about me and what makes me happy. Quite simply success is less about fame and money; it’s more about discovery, adventure, celebration, love, faith, giving and gratitude.
MIHM-You experienced a life altering accident few year ago, can you tell us about it?
WB-I was struck by an 18-wheeler flatbed truck at 70mph while I was driving my car going 55 mph. I flipped across all 4 lanes, hit the concrete highway divider, then back across all 4 lanes and hit the metal railing and my car caught on fire in the middle of the interstate. I was able to walk away from the impact…all while thinking “if I live through this, there must be a reason”. At the time I was working in healthcare, thinking it was “safe”, but I realized I wasn’t happy. It was literally a miracle I was alive, and God must have a reason for me to still be here. I needed to get back to doing what I was passionate about. “I knew since a young age my life purpose was to be an actress and producer.” I decided to follow my dreams. Now I see every day is a gift, and an opportunity!
MIHM- What do you think about the lack of opportunities for women in Hollywood?
WB-It’s true there are more opportunities for men. But I think that is changing little by little, and I hope to be a part of that. I’m kind of a trailblazer and I’ve always had a “can do” spirit. I never think “I can’t”, rather I find a way against all odds. Life is never easy, but I find it very rewarding. I know I’m breaking new ground and even though there are obstacles in the way I see them as stepping stones rather than stumbling blocks.
I believe if you want opportunity, you can create it! If you want something, then go and get it! Don’t limit yourself, but don’t be afraid to say no if it’s not right for you.
MIHM-Who have been your biggest mentors in your career?
WB-I really haven’t had any mentors. I didn’t grow up around L.A., so I’ve had to figure this out on my own. I’m pretty much a self-made woman (with God’s help). I’ve always had an entrepreneurial spirit, so I figured it out on my own. I have sought out examples of people who have made it in this business, and tried to learn what made them successful. I started out a few years ago with no connections and no family that lived here. I’m grateful for all that I’ve been able to accomplish so far, but there are still so many things I want to do!
MIHM-What other projects are you working on right now?
WB-I signed on as an actress in several upcoming features. I am writing my own movie scripts & writing a book right now. I am a producer on the feature films “Vernett’s War”, “God & Guns”, “Jolt”, and “The Manny” to name a few. I am also creating impressionistic art, traveling, and making music in my spare time.
